Youth Ministry - August 2018

What a summer it has been! God is doing a mighty work in the life of our student ministry and church as a whole! I am so excited to be a part of Cook Baptist! Summertime is ending and shortly our students will be returning to school! This brings groans from them but also so many opportunities! We are looking forward to what God has in store this fall! Three things to remember:

  1. Stay Connected – Life gets busy with school starting. There is always something going on. Remember to make your
students spiritual needs a priority and stay plugged into what is going on here at Cook Baptist.
  2. Deposit Encouragement – School is tough. Studying, papers and projects. Remember to continue to encourage one another. Encouragement drives the boat!
  3. Grow Your Faith – Don’t check out. Look for daily opportunities to grow your faith and your witness and see how God uses you this semester!

Whether you are a grandparent, parent, or student; God has some incredible things in store for you! Stay connected, Deposit
Encouragement, and Grow Your Faith!

Youth Ministry - June 2018

Cook family! Thank you so much for the encouraging words, friendly smiles, and prayers as I become part of the family at Cook Baptist Church! I am so thankful that God has brought me here and I am excited about what He wants to do in the life of this church! We had a great time kicking off the summer and worshipping together with other students at Souled Out Summer. This summer we are “Moving Forward” and talking about what it means to move forward in our faith! I’m excited about “Move Days” where we partner with local ministries and “Move Night” where we are trained to intentionally share our faith. Be on the lookout for details on such things as parents meetings and summer events pertaining to youth ministry! It’s going to be a great summer here at Cook Baptist Church!

In Christ,
Wes Pierce

A Word From Shaffka - March 2015

Cook Family,

Words can't express how thankful my family and I are to be a part of the Cook family. I want to thank you again for the opportunity to come back and serve here at Cook Baptist Church. These past four and one half years have been a dream come true for Laurie and me to come back and serve students and families in our community.

I want to thank you for your words of encouragement and affirmation as we seek our Heavenly Father in where He would have us to serve Him in Christian Camp Ministry. We are very excited about the change the Lord has in store for us. Laurie and I would covet your prayers and support as we journey through this transition in ministry. We will continue to pray that God will bless the work of the ministry here at Cook.

I pray that the Lord will receive all the glory and praise in my family life and in the life of Cook Baptist Church.

To God be the glory!

Love in Christ,
Bro. Shawn

A Word From Shaffka - February 2015

Winter Retreat was amazing this year! Our students had the opportunity to bring in the new year at Shepherd of the Ozarks in Harriet, AR. I want to say a special thank you to our adults that made this trip possible: Brent & Emily Gay, Phillip & Joanne Hood, Denise Matthews, Jeanie Rowland, Leigh Ann Williams, and to my wonderful wife, Laurie! Our students had an amazing time studying God's Word and looking at the life of Peter and family for your prayers and support for our students to have opportunities just like this one.

S.N.A.C. for the month of February will be on the third Sunday evening at La Bamba immediately following our evening worship service. The first Sunday of the month is Super Bowl Sunday, so our evening worship will be at 5:00 PM, then our connect groups are being encouraged to host fellowships within their homes and invite friends to watch the game and fellowship.

Bonfire and Capture the Flag: Our students have expressed that they would like to have a fellowship with a bonfire and play capture the flag. We are planning to have it on Friday, February 6, but I am still in need of a location. Parents, if anyone would like to host this event at their home would you please get in touch with me as soon as possible. If it rains that day, we have already made plans to move the event to the Youth Room for movie night to watch the movie "One Night with the King".

Youth Embrace Ruston: On Monday, February 16, our students will be out of school for President's Day and they have expressed that they want to do a service project that day. We will be doing some type of ministry project in our community. I will have more details for you in the next few weeks and students will need money for lunch. Parents, if you would be available to help that day, please let me know as soon as possible. I would like to invite all parents that would be interested in helping to plan and carry out youth activities to join the youth support team. We usually have our meeting on the first Wednesday night of every month at 7:15 PM in the Youth 3 Room upstairs in the Ministry Building. If you are interested in being part of the Youth Support Team, then catch me sometime at church or give me a call at the church office. I would love to visit with you on how you can be involved.
